Who is Intellective?

Intellective is a boutique accounting firm founded by Mark Cranny. Mark has been working with small business since 1993, when he began his career as a Chartered Accountant at KPMG. Since then Mark has spent most of his time working to improve small business throughout Queensland. Mark has worked for some of the biggest organisations in Australia and Overseas and uses these experiences to find creative solutions to improve small business.

Mark Cranny - DirectorMark is a Chartered Accountant with almost 20 years experience and is passionate about making business simpler and more profitable.

He has been involved in CFO roles for the past 10 years in a diverse range of industries. Mark brings a fresh perspective that is practical and understanding.

After completing a B. Commerce majoring in Accounting, Finance and Business Law at Bond University. Mark went on to commence his Chartered Accounting career at the Brisbane offices of KPMG. Mark began his career with the Private Business Division specialising in tax, management reporting and feasibility studies for small business clients.

Moving to London, Mark worked in various project roles at NatWest and Citibank including: business analyst for a trading system project, Y2K project, and daily trading reports for New York and Milan trading desks.

On returning to Australia, Mark continued to work in project management roles and rejoined KPMG in the Consulting Division. He specialised in Business Process Improvement projects using his Accounting background. Some projects included:

  • Simplyfying the Document Management System for the Premiers Department.
  • Improving the Maroochy Council processes to incorporate new legislation on infrastructure charges.
  • Feasibility study on the expansion of a commercial laundry.

On the birth of his second child, Mark put his family first and took his first major role in commerce at St Brendan’s College, a large boarding school in Yeppoon, Central Queensland. As the Business Manager, Mark’s role was primarily as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) managing 65 staff and project managing the ambitious School Building Master Plan. Mark was passionate about improving the business side of the College and made special efforts to visit other schools looking for good ideas to implement at the College. One major improvement was to implement Monthly Dashboard Management Reporting at St Brendan’s and other Christian Brother Colleges throughout Queensland.

At Pacific Properties, the company was growing rapidly and Mark joined as their first CFO. Mark applied his previous experience and went about establishing financial controls and systems to aid the Company in its growth. Cash flow management was crucial in this industry, so Mark established tools to forecast cash flows for projects and the Company in total. He set about improving the relationship with their Banks and re-arranged the debt financing to better suit the Companies direction.

Mark worked closely with the CEO and Owners in shaping the Company’s strategic direction. He established the Building Company and the business processes from initial quoting to final payment and all the compliance requirements between.

After an 8 month camping adventure around Australia with Kath and their 4 sons, Mark returned clear in his mind that he wanted to start his own business to help others succeed. Mark established Intellective in 2008 to provide Virtual CFO services and make business simpler and more profitable.

Since 2008, Mark has provided Virtual CFO services to 22 businesses including Glencairn MacDermott Insurance Brokers, Magic Millions Insurance Brokers, Indo Gold, Yeppoon Family Practice, Tropical Pines and Capricornia Training Company on an as required basis. Some clients require 2-3 days per week, others require 1 day per month. With an emphasis on putting the client’s needs first, Mark has become a valuable team member with his clients. And he looks forward to becoming a member of your Team also.

Kath CrannyHaving completed a Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) at QUT Kath took her first role in the Audit Division of KPMG Brisbane. This role provided Kath with a broad understanding of businesses both large and small. Whilst completing studies to become a Chartered Accountant Kath chose to specialise in the Audit of Self Managed Superannuation Funds.

Roles that Kath took on during a working holiday in England included: Project Accountant for Swiss Bank Corporation, Review of Organisational structure for MEDAS, a subsidiary of the BBC and Acting Financial Controller of the London office of Societe General, a French Merchant Bank.

Back in Brisbane Kath became the Accountant for Phillips Fox Lawyers and was involved in major accounting and system based projects to cater for the national amalgamation of the firm as well as accounting for GST.

Since 2008 Kath has been working to support Mark in our business, Intellective. Her part time role encompasses Business Management as well as client work when required.
